In the early 2000s, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World (directed by Edgar Wright) was one of the most interesting comic book adaptations. Based on the graphic novel by Bryan Lee O’Malley, the film was a clever mixture of video game-style narrative elements, campy aesthetics and indie rock music.
However, the film did not win over audiences at the time, failing to make back its $85 million production budget. Nowadays its considered a cult classic, and over a decade later Netflix has decided it’s time to revive Scott and his friends in the form of an animated series.
Here’s everything we know about Scott Pilgrim Takes Off.
When does Scott Pilgrim Takes Off release?
The animated series will premiere on Netflix globally on Friday, 17 November 2023, with an eight-episode season.
You can sign up on the Netflix website, with prices starting from $6.99/$4.99 per month.
What is the plot of Scott Pilgrim Takes Off?
While the series creators haven’t revealed many plot details, we assume the show will cover the same events as Edgar Wright’s movie.
For those who haven’t seen it (and if you haven’t you need to rectify that right away: it’s streaming on Amazon Freevee in the UK) Scott Pilgrim is a neurotic 22-year-old bassist of the indie rock band called Sex Bob-Omb. He’s dating a 17-year-old girl named Knives Chau. However, his heart is stolen by Ramona Flowers, an American Amazon delivery girl.
In order to date Ramona, he must first defeat her seven evil exes. In his deadly battles, Scott is supported by his younger sister Stacey, his cool roommate Wallace Wells, and his friends from the band.
As this is a series, it may go more in depth to some stories from the graphic novel that the movie didn’t manage to cover.
